It is estimated that only thirty-five instruments were produced. The slide-and-lock body was referred to as a "Butterfly" back and is interchangeable with six-string or bass neck shafts. A "Double Butterfly" double neck model was available to accommodate both necks (Model 6025). Controls for this instrument are located on top of detachable center block.

The original prototype of this model had a deeper, full body, but by the Clipper's introduction, the body had a thinner, 335 style thickness to it. In 1959, Natural finish (Model 6187) was introduced. In 1960, a HiLo'Tron pickup was introduced. In 1961, Natural finish was disc. In 1963, a palm vibrato was offered as standard, though few models are found with one. In 1968, vibrato was no longer offered. In 1971, this model was renumbered 7555. In 1972, two pickups were introduced (Model 6185).

In 1957, an ebony fingerboard with thumbnail inlays were introduced. In 1958, this model was renamed the Sal Salvador and a triple-bound top, triple-bound fingerboard, and a Filter'Tron pickup were introduced. In 1965, block fingerboard inlays were introduced and the knobs were mounted into the instrument's top.

In 1963, the body shape was altered in that the cutaways became sharper, the pickguard styling changed, the metal bridge replaced the ebony bridge, Cherry finish was introduced, Platinum Grey finish was disc, and more pickup options became available: one pickup with vibrato (Model 6134) and two pickups (extra tone control and three-position switch) with vibrato (Model 6135) In 1964, the headstock became rounded with 2/4-per-side tuners. In 1966, the Silver Duke with Silver Glitter finish and the Gold Duke with Gold Glitter finish were produced. These guitars were stock 1966 Corvettes (Model 6135) with special finishes that were built specifically for the Sherman Clay Music store chain of the western U.S. Company brochures of the time did not identify the above Duke models. These models have been mis-identified as being named after Charles Duke Kramer, a long time Gretsch employee - but that was not the case. A small amount of these models exist. In 1968, single pickup models 6132 and 6134 were disc., and a Bigsby vibrato and Super'Tron pickups were introduced. This model was disc. in 1972, but was listed again in the catalog in 1976 as the Model 7623.

In 1958 the transition to the Anniversary model started with the removal of Electromatic from a new unbound headstock, a FilterTron pickup, and new a control layout.

The original (1940) version of this model had a larger 17 in. body width. By 1949, the body width was narrowed to 16 in. and the specs followed everything in the model description. In 1951, Natural finish (Model 6185N) was introduced. In 1955, this model was renamed the Corvette Hollowbody with new features including a double-bound top and back, a rounded-peak headstock with no zig-zag pattern and a truss rod cover, and new finishes were introduced/renumbered: Jaguar Tan (Model 6184), Sunburst (Model 6182), and Natural (Model 6183). In 1957, an ivory top with gray mist back and sides finish became optional as the Model 6187. In late 1957, a single round cutaway body was introduced.

This Princess was advertised in the 1963 catalog as "The only guitar and amplifier ensemble designed for the feminine guitarist." The guitar itself featured a shorter scale, lightweight body, and "feminine" colors. The amplifier was covered in white and featured 1-8 in. Jensen speaker. It was sold as a complete package with the guitar, Princess amplifier, guitar case, and amplifier cover. Only fifty of these combos were reportedly produced and very few amplifiers have survived today.

- single cutaway mahogany body, arched bound top, mahogany neck, 22-fret bound ebony fingerboard with pearloid halfmoon inlay and zero fret, bound blackface headstock with "Roc Jet" logo, model nameplate, and three-per-side tuners, adj. bridge, "G" logo trapeze tailpiece, raised silver pickguard with Gretsch logo, two Super'Tron pickups, four knobs on lower treble bout (two v, two tone), one knob on upper treble bout (MV), three-way pickup switch on upper bass bout, chrome hardware, available in Mercedes Black (Model 6130/7610/7611), Porsche Pumpkin (Model 6127/7611, 1969-1975), Red (Model 7612, 1971-77), or Walnut-Stained Mahogany (Model 7613 (1971-1980), 13.5 in. body width, 1.5 in. body depth, 24.5 in. scale, mfg. 1969-1980.
In 1971, this model was renumbered to 7610 (Mercedes Black) and 7611 (Pumpkin Porsche), and Red (Model 7612 and Walnut-Stained Mahogany (Model 7613) finishes were introduced. In 1972, the pickguard was redesigned and the peghead plate was removed. In 1975, Pumpkin Porsche finish was disc. and Mercedes Black changed to Model 7611. In 1977, Red finish was disc. In 1978, regular humbucker pickups and a tune-o-matic bridge and stop tailpiece were introduced.

- single cutaway solidbody, bound mahogany body with a flat top, bound ebony fingerboard with thumbnail inlays, six-saddle bridge, tailpiece, two humbucker pickups, four knobs (v1, v2, treble boost, distortion) and two selector switches mounted on an elliptical plate, active electronics, available in Dark Red finish, mfg. 1974-77.
A single pickup variation of this guitar was available for a while as well. The Roc I Model 7635 is very rare.
