GRETSCH SYNCHROMATIC 160 (MODEL 6028) Description
- carved spruce top, carved curly maple back, curly maple sides, two double-bound cat's-eye soundholes, tortoiseshell bound body, five-piece maple/rosewood neck, 14/20-fret four-ply bound rosewood fingerboard with large pearl block inlay, bound blackface headstock with pearl "Gretsch" logo on top and "Synchromatic" logo above the E-string tuners inlays, three-per-side chrome Grover tuners, adj. stylized rosewood bridge, harp tailpiece, raised bound tortoiseshell pickguard, chrome-plated hardware, available in Natural (6029) or Sunburst (6028) finish, 17 in. body width, 26 in. scale, mfg. 1939-1951.
In 1942, Natural finish with tortoiseshell binding became available. This model was disc. in 1943 but reintroduced in 1947 with some models having slight changes: an ebony fingerboard, no headstock indents above the E string tuners, and gold-plated hardware. In 1948, the Synchromatic 160 was assigned Model 6029 for Natural finish and Model 6028 for Sunburst finish.
