GIBSON SG TV Description
- double rounded or SG style cutaway mahogany body, mahogany neck, 22-fret rosewood fingerboard with pearl dot inlay, wraparound stop tailpiece, 3-per-side tuners with plastic buttons, nickel hardware, small (mfg. 1966-68) or large black pickguard, single coil pickup, volume/tone control, available in Limed Mahogany or White finish, mfg. 1959-1968.
The TV designation refers to the finishes that Gibson applied at the time to the wood, making the instrument stand out better on black and white television with more contrast. In 1961, the SG-style body replaced the double rounded cutaway horns. This configuration was available in White finish. The Double Cutaway is fairly rare, and does not trade too often in the vintage guitar market.
