- symmetrical SG-style double cutaway mahogany body, set mahogany neck, 22-fret bound rosewood fingerboard with dot inlays, black headstock overlay with pearl logo, three-per-side tuners, large rectangular tune-o-matic bridge, Gibson Bigsby tailpiece, triangular Les Paul-style black pickguard, two black soapbar P-90 pickups with large black plastic mounting rings and "Gibson" logo above the poles, four black knobs with silver centers (two v, two tone), three-way pickup switch, jack on face of the guitar, available in Cherry, Natural, or Walnut finish, approx. 2,995 shipped, mfg. 1971-74.
The controls for the SG Pro appeared in two different variations. One version are front mounted with a semi-circular black pickguard surrounding all the controls. The other version is rear-mounted with no pickguard and an access plate on the backside of the guitar. This model was also a replacement for the SG Special but was only produced for about a year and a half before the SG Special was reintroduced.
