MARTIN Style AK Description
- similar to the Style A Mandolin, except features Koa back, top, and sides, mfg. 1920-1937, reintroduced as the A-3K2 mfg. 1980-81.
In 1935, the binding was changed to Fiberloid. When it was reintroduced as the A-3K2 in 1980, none were actually produced as that model designation and it was quickly renamed the AK2 to update to the current procedure of naming Koa top guitars with a suffix of 2.
A model named the A-3K was introduced in 1980 and featured a spruce top with Koa back and sides. It was renamed the AK in 1981, but never was produced.
