GRETSCH SYNCHROMATIC 400F FLATTOP (MODEL 6042) Description
- spruce top, maple arched back and sides, triangle soundhole, mulit-bound top and back with tortoiseshell layer, maple neck, 14/21-fret bound rosewood fingerboard with pearloid slashed hump top block inlay, bound cloud headstock with indents below the E strings and a pointed top, a slanted "Gretsch" logo at the top, and a Synchromatic/tusk ornamental logo, three-per-side enclosed Grover gold tuners, adj. rosewood stairstep bridge, harp tailpiece, raised pickguard, available in Natural top, Sunburst back/side finish, 18 in. body width, mfg. 1947-1955.
By 1949, an adj. bridge with a large triangular base, metal string anchor plate, and a non-raised pickguard were all introduced. In 1949, this model was numbered 6042.
