- six-string or seven-string configuration, single round cutaway hollow bound maple body, two bound f-holes, maple neck, 21-fret with zero fret triple-bound ebony fingerboard with pearl thumbnail inlays, triple-bound blackface asymmetrical peghead with pearl logo inlay, peghead mounted nameplate, three- or 4/3-per-side tuners, tuning fork bridge, roller bridge, G logo trapeze tailpiece, raised white pickguard with logo, two covered FilterTron pickups, control layout #3 (three knobs, three switches), gold hardware, available in Sunburst (Model 6079/6081) or Walnut (Model 6080/6082) finish, 17 in. body width, 25.5 in. scale, mfg. 1968-1979.
The six-string version was only available between 1968 and 1972. In 1971, SuperTron pickups were introduced and the seven-string model was renumbered 7580 for Sunburst and 7581 for Walnut. In 1972, the nameplate on the headstock, tuning fork bridge, and standby switch were all removed, and an ebony bridge and chrome hardware were introduced.
