When the Thomas Organ Company began producing Vox amplifiers in the U.S., most of their first models were tube amps including the Pathfinder (V-1), Pacemaker (V-2), Cambridge Reverb (V-3), and Berkeley Super Reverb (V-8). They also introduced a few solid-state Vox amplifiers including the Essex Bass (V-4), and the U.S. line would shortly evolve into an entirely solid-state offering. All U.S.-built tube models (except the Student model) feature a solid-state version that are in most cases quite similar to each other.

The Buckingham Models V12 and V112 had two separate footswitches and footswitch jacks. When the V1122 was introduced in 1966, it featured a new three-button footswitch that consolidated the previous two. The V1121 featured a distortion booster that could only be controlled by footswitch and this amp came equipped with a four-button footswitch. The V1123 was introduced in 1967 and featured an E tuner. The Buckingham is the same as the Viscount in piggyback configuration.
