ELECTRIC TUBE AMPS: SUPER (DUAL PROFESSIONAL) SERIES

This series started out with the Dual Professional. In 1947, after only one year of production, the name was changed to the Super. Wide panel was introduced in 1952. Narrow panel was introduced in 1954. Brownface and brown tolex was introduced in 1960. This model was disc. in 1964 and replaced by the Super Reverb. The original Super never received the blackface change. For the Super Six Reverb, see the Twin series, since the Super Six is really a Twin chassis. For the Super produced in the 1990s, refer to the Pro-Tube series.

DUAL PROFESSIONAL (SUPER)

- 16W, 2-10 in. Jensen speakers, tube chassis, preamp: 3 X 6SJ7, power: 2 X 6L6, 5U4 rectifier, top numbered control panel, four inputs (two instruments, one mic, one lo-gain), three pointer knobs (mic v, inst. v, tone), fuse holder, and red pilot light, V-front cabinet, early tweed covering, dark brown grille with vertical chrome strip in middle, mfg. 1946-1952.
This amp was renamed the Super in 1947, and the 3 X 6SJ7 preamp tubes were changed to 3 X 6SC7. The tubes are converted over to 12AX7 and 12AY7 as soon as they were available (Model 5C4). A TV front Super was never made. In 1952, the V front is taken away, There are some Super amplifiers of this time with 6V6 tubes. The Dual Professional was the first two-speaker amp for Fender.

- 20W, 2-10 in. Jensen speakers, tube chassis, preamp: 2 X 12AY7, 12AX7, power: 2 X 6L6G, 5U4G rectifier, top numbered control panel, four input jacks, four pointer knobs (mic v, inst. v, t, b), ground switch, diagonal tweed covering, brown tweed-era grille, mfg. 1954-1960.
This model hasĀ a self-balancing paraphrase inverter circuit (Model 5D4). In 1955, 6V6 tubes were introduced (Model 5E4), and the nameplate changed to script type. In 1956, the tubes were changed back to 6L6 (Model 5F4), and the namplate is changed to Super Amp script. In 1958, a presence control was added.

Circa 1961-62, a GZ34 rectifier was intrdouced (6G4). In 1961, a 7025 was replaced by 2 X 12AX7 (Model 6G14-A). From 1962, some amps were made with 5881 output tubes and could produce 45W output. The Super amp was replaced by the Super Reverb.

SUPER REVERB (SILVERFACE)

- 40W, 4-10 in. speakers, tube chassis, preamp:4 X 7025, 2 X 12AT7, power: 2 X 6L6GC, two channels, tremolo, reverb, silverface control panel, four inputs (two normal, two vibrato), 10 silver-top knobs (Norm: v, t, b, Vibrato: v, t, m, b, r, s, i), two bright switches (one per channel), black tolex covering, silver grille, mfg. 1968-1980.
The Silverface was introduced as the Model AB568. In 1969, Model AA1069 was introduced. In 1970, the output was raised to 45W. In 1976, a master volume knob and distortion switch was added. In the late 1970s, some models may appear with a mid control in the normal channel. Silver Reverbs come in three different control layouts. The first has 10 knobs, which is listed in the above description. The second features an added Master Volume knob for a total of 11 knobs. The third version has both a Master Volume and a mid control in the Normal channel for a total of 12 knobs.

The red knobs on this amp were replaced by black ones shortly after the amp was introduced. This unit was available as a head-unit only or as a combo.
