This amp is often referred to as the MK-IIA although that was never mentioned in Mesa's product information or on the amp itself. The Mark II along with a few late-model Mark I amps featured a silicon component called a Fetron that was used in place of one of the 12AX7 tubes. When a Fetron was installed, the amp also had a switch that allowed the user to configure the amp for use with either a Fetron or a regular tube. The Fetron was not very popular and was discontinued in the early 1980s.
