In 1944, scalloped bracing was disc. Martin produced seven D-2 models that were prototypes for the D-28 (1931-34). Martin also produced two D-28 models with cocobolo wood (1987), two D-28G models with gut strings (1937, 1961), two D-28H Hawaiian models (1934, 1936), and one D-28T tenor model (1964). Martin also produced 30 D-28SW guitars with 12-fret neck bodies and slotted headstocks for the Wurlitzer music store (1962-68). In 1985, Martin introduced an adjustable U-bar truss rod as standard equipment; however, they also offered a non-adjustable square bar truss rod through the early 1990s and these guitars are stamped D-28Q (total production of 417 instruments). In 1987, Martin introduced a new low-profile neck on the D-28 and stamped these guitars D-28P; however, they continued to offer their old neck style through 1989 and these guitars are stamped D-28 (total production of 1,322 instruments).
