GIBSON L-C/CENTURY (CENTURY OF PROGRESS) Description
- L-style small body, spruce top, curly maple back and sides, round soundhole with two ring rosette, three-ply (1933-38) or single-ply (1938-1941) body binding, mahogany neck, 14/19-fret three-ply bound pearloid fingerboard, notched pearl diamonds inlaid in rosewood block fingerboard inlays, black-bound headstock with pearloid veneer with rosewood wedge and pearl slotted diamond/Gibson logo inlay (1933-38), or unbound headstock with rosewood veneer and stickpin inlay (1938-1941), three-per-side tuners with plastic buttons, rosewood straight bridge with white pins, tortoise pickguard, 14 ¾ in. body width, 19 ¼ in. body length, available in Sunburst finish, mfg. 1933-1941.
In 1938, two types of rosewood headstock veneer replaced the pearloid veneer. One featured a pearl diamond inlay and the other was bound with pearl slotted diamond/logo inlays. Rare examples have a black truss rod cover. Several variations of the L-C/Century exist including multiple fingerboard and headstock designs and inlays.
