Jensen speaker, guitar/microphone combo, seven-tube chassis, preamp: 2 X 5879, 1 X 7025, 1 X 6SQ7, power: 2 X 6V6, rectifier: 5Y3, two channels, tremolo, top rear-mounted control panel, four inputs (two per channel), five black chicken head knobs (Ch. 1 v, Ch. 2 v, tone tremolo depth, tremolo freq.), available in two-tone Buffalo grain covering with a woven Saran grille and "Gibson 40" logo centered above the grille (1955-56), two-tone Buffalo grain covering with a woven Saran grille and "Gibson" logo centered above the grille (1957-59), or tweed covering with a dark brown grille cloth (1960), 22 in. wide, 20 in. tall, 10.125 in. deep, 4,275 shipped, mfg. 1955-1960.
In 1956, the chassis was upgraded to eight tubes (tubes unknown). In 1958, the design changed to a two-tone brown, only a "Gibson" logo above the grille, and a metal handle with a plastic middle replaced the leather one. Shipping totals reflect the total number shipped from the start of 1955 (regardless if first version models were still shipped into 1955).
