- single rounded cutaway mahogany body with hollow sound chambers, solid spruce top, round soundhole with plastic bowl insert and wood inlay rosette, two-stripe body binding, mahogany neck, 12/19-fret rosewood (1981-1996) or ebony (1996-2005) fingerboard, slotted headstock with rosewood overlay, three-per-side gold tuners with pearl buttons, tied rosewood bridge, Gibson piezo bridge pickups, volume/tone control, active electronics, available in Alpine White (1981-1994), Antique Natural, Cedar (1994-95), Ebony (1990-94), or Wine Red (1990-2002) finish, 1.8 in. nut width, 25.5 in. scale, mfg. late 1981-2005.

This model was produced in Nashville until 2002 when production moved to Montana through 2005. Approximately the first 1,000 instruments were stamped with a unique serial number consisting of a letter prefix followed by three digits. This series started with A 001, ran through A 100 then switched to B 001, ran through B 100 all the way up to K 100.
