- carved spruce or poplar top, mahogany back/sides, single body binding, mahogany neck, segmented f-holes, 20-fret rosewood fingerboard with dot inlay, small black pickguard, three-per-side tuners with plastic buttons, available in Golden Brown and Brown with Sunburst top, 13 in. body width, mfg. 1931-1949.
In 1933, the body was changed to 13.625 in. width, trapeze tailpiece, rounded end fingerboard with dot inlay, and a sunburst finish were introduced. In 1934 the Masterbilt and Epiphone in banner logos appeared on headstock. By 1936, the Masterbilt logo was removed, the body was changed to 15.25 in. wide, cello f-holes with squared edges, and a single bound top were introduced. In 1939, a center dip peghead and a script decal with tail logo was introduced. In 1943, the tail was removed from the logo, and some featured a pearl logo. Some models have appeared with no body binding.
