ELECTRIC TUBE AMPLIFIERS: AC SERIES, EARLY MODELS (1950S-1970S)

model was originally known as the AC-30/4, which meant it only had four input jacks. It was changed in 1960 to the AC-30/6 with six jacks. Early models of the AC-30 have Audiom 60 speakers. Later models have Clestion Model G12 speakers made especially for Vox. This model was also available later with 2-15" Vox Celestion speakers. In 1963, dark covering was introduced. The Original Top-Boost AC-30 came from a separate bass and treble control mounted on the back of the amp separately from the control panel.

This model was originally called the AC-2 until late 1961 when it was changed to the AC-4.

The AC-30/4 and AC-30/6 were produced concurrently in 1961, but the AC-30/4 was quickly discontinued in favor of the AC-30/6. Several variations of the AC-30/6 were produced including bass, normal, and treble models that were all voiced differently for their application.

AC-30/6 Twin Top Boost

- similar to the AC-30/6 Twin, except has an additional treble and volume controls driven by an additional 12AX7 preamp tube, mfg. 1961-1972.
The Top Boost unit was initially an aftermarket add-on offered by Vox and the bass and treble controls were mounted on a small vertical white control panel on the back of the amplifier. Starting in 1963, the Top Boost unit became available as part of the actual control panel.
