KALAMAZOO AWARD

View Details
- please refer to the Acoustic Electric section in the Blue Book of Acoustic Guitars.
- symmetrical double cutaway Melody Maker-style mahogany body, set mahogany neck, 22-fret rosewood fingerboard with white dot inlays, standard Gibson headstock with Gibson logo only and truss rod cover with engraved KZ II logo, three-per-side tuners, tune-o-matic bridge, stop tailpiece, two exposed Dirty Fingers humbucker pickups, four knobs (two v, two tone), three-way pickup switch mounted above knobs, jack mounted below knobs on face of guitar, chrome hardware, available in Walnut finish, mfg. 1980-81.
This guitar was built in the Kalamazoo factory and it is rumored that they used leftover parts and pieces to assemble the KZ-II. Therefore, several variations of this guitar have been encountered including various tuners, tailpieces, and strap buttons. The design was later sold to another company, which produced the model as the Spirit. A unique feature about this guitar is the extremely thin neck that is even thinner than the thin 60s profile.
