- offset double cutaway carved mahogany body/neck, 24-fret rosewood (Brazilian until 1991, Indian beginning 1992) fingerboard with pearl and abalone moon inlay, 25 in. scale, standard PRS tremolo system or PRS stoptail bridge, three-per-side locking PRS tuners, chrome hardware, two standard T & B humbucker PRS pickups (one HFS and one Vintage Bass beginning 1991), volume/tone control, five-position rotary switch, high gloss, includes case, available in Black, Natural, Pearl Black, or Vintage Cherry finish, mfg. 1985-2006.
Sweet switch and Brazilian rosewood fretboard were disc. Nov., 1991. The Standard Model nomenclature was used 1987-1993, when it was changed to the Standard 24. During 1985-86, this model was known as the PRS Guitar.
On early manufacture, Magenta Pearl, Seafoam Green, Powder Blue, and Canary Yellow are the most desirable colors.
In 1998, Black Sunburst, Natural, Trans. Green, Trans. Orange, Trans. Purple, Trans. Turquoise, and Trans. Walnut finishes were introduced; Black and Pearl Black finishes were disc. 1996/1997 Custom colors were Custom Black, Electric Blue, Electric Red, Gold Top, Pearl White, Black Holoflake, Blue Holoflake, Burgundy Holoflake, Green Holoflake, Gold Holoflake, Red Holoflake, and Silver Holoflake.
During 2004, an optional 3-way toggle selector switch and push/pull tone control (coil tap capabilities) became available at no charge - previously it was a $70 option.
During 2005, a 20th Anniversary model was released, which has "20th" on the truss-rod cover and special "Birds in Flight" fingerboard inlays.
