- offset double cutaway mahogany body, carved figured maple top, mahogany neck, 24-fret rosewood fingerboard with abalone/pearl moon inlay, 25 in. scale, PRS tremolo system or PRS stoptail (mfg. circa 1993-2001), three-per-side low mass cam style locking tuners, chrome hardware, Phase II tuners became standard 2002, two standard T & B humbucker PRS pickups (one HFS and one Vintage Bass beginning 1991), volume/tone control, 5-position rotary switch, optional 3-way toggle selector switch and push/pull tone control (coil tap capabilities), 10-top became an option in 1987 (flame or quilt), available in many colors. Vintage Yellow is the most desirable in early mfg., low serial numbers are also very desirable, includes Tolex case, mfg. 1985-present.
1985-86 mfg. incorporated T & B pickups, Schaller tuners, and many 1985 cases had a blue interior lining. This model was called the PRS Custom Guitar during 1985-86, and the Custom during 1987-1992.
Prices for pre-1992 Custom 24 models (with sweet switch) can vary significantly depending on the quality of the top wood, condition, and finish.
In 1998, Teal Black, Turquoise, Violin Amber, and Violin Amber Sunburst finishes were introduced; Scarlet Sunburst finish was disc.
This model has a Wide-Thin neck optional. Sweet switch and Brazilian rosewood fretboard were disc. Nov., 1991.
During 2005, a 20th Anniversary model was released, which has "20th" on the truss-rod cover and special "Birds in Flight" fingerboard inlays.
In 2011, a redesigned five-way pickup switch was introduced.
In 2012, uncovered 59/09 treble and bass pickups with new contoured bobbins were introduced.
