- slope-shouldered dreadnought 12-fret body style, solid spruce top, three-piece Brazilian rosewood (1966-69) or Indian rosewood (1969-present) back, Brazilian rosewood (1966-69) or Indian rosewood (1969-present) sides, round soundhole with 5/9/5 grouping ring rosette, six-ply top body binding, three-ply back binding with white outer layer, side binding with two black lines, mahogany neck, 12/19-fret bound ebony fingerboard with pearl dot inlays, slotted headstock with rosewood overlay and logo, three-per-side open-style chrome tuners, ebony bridge with white bridge pins and black dots, tortoise (1966-69) or black (1969-present) pickguard, available in Natural finish, 25.4 in. scale, available as a Special Order, total production of 1,831 instruments, mfg. 1966-1993.
Martin also produced three D-35SW models that were built for the Wurlitzer music store (1966-68) and one SD-35S9 nine-string guitar for Fat Johnson (New Christy Minstrels, 1968).
