- Grand Concert body style, spruce top, Brazilian rosewood back and sides, round soundhole with pearl rosette, ivory (1898-1918) or ivoroid (1918-1942) top and back binding, pearl border around top and where the fingerboard meets the body, zipper-pattern back stripe, cedar (1898-1916) or mahogany (1916-1942) neck, 12/19-fret ivory (1898-1918) or ivoroid (1918-1942)-bound ebony fingerboard with snowflake inlays that start at the fifth fret, ivory (1898-1918) or ivoroid (1918-1942)-bound slotted headstock, three-per-side open-style tuners, rectangular (1898-1929) or belly (1929-1942, 1973) ivory (1898-1918) or ebony (1918-1942) bridge, no pickguard (1898-1932) or tortoise pickguard (1932-1942), Natural finish, 24.9 in. scale, total production of 503 instruments, mfg. 1898-1942, 1973.
Martin produced one 00-42 in 1973 that featured Indian rosewood back and sides and a black pickguard. Martin also produced three 00-42s with classical nylon-string configuration (Model 00-42G, 1936-39), and one 00-42 with a koa top, back, and sides (Model 00-42K, 1919 only).
