GIBSON SG STANDARD (MFG. 1963-1970) Description

- double sharp cutaway mahogany body, layered black pickguard, one piece mahogany neck, 22-fret bound rosewood fingerboard with pearl trapezoid inlay, tune-o-matic bridge/side-pull vibrato, blackface peghead with pearl logo inlay, 3-per-side tuners, nickel hardware, 2 covered humbucker pickups, 2 volume/2 tone controls, 3-position switch, available in Cherry finish, approx. 16,700 mfg. 1963-1970.

In 1963, some instruments were produced with an ebony tailblock and pearl inlay. During 1966, a larger pickguard that surrounded the pickups was introduced, eliminating the pickup trim rings. In 1971, the SG Standard was replaced by the SG Deluxe.
