FENDER TWIN (NARROW PANEL) Description
- 50W, 2-12 in. Jensen speakers, tube chassis, preamp: 3 X 12AY7, 12AX7, power: 2 X 6L6, rectifer: 2 X 5Y3GY, top numbered control panel, four input jacks, five pointer knobs (mic v, inst. v, b, t, p), diagonal tweed covering, brown tweed-era grille, mfg. 1954-1960.
Model 5E8 was the first to have 50W. In 1955, the rectifers were changed to 2 X 5U4G (Model 5F8) and later on to a5AR4 (Model 5F8-A). In 1956, a mid-range control is added along with bright and normal inputs. In 1958, the preamp and driver tubes were changed to a 12AY7 and 2 X 12AX7, and the output tubes are changed to 4 X 5881. This is model 5F8-A, and power output was reported at 85W. The control panel now had six knobs. A few of the very late (1960) models were covered in brown Tolex with the top control panel. Some collectors say early Twin's had 2-10 in. speakers.
