- single cutaway jumbo hollowbody, laminated spruce top, mahogany back and sides, two f-holes, top and back multi-ply black and white body binding, mahogany neck, 21-fret rosewood fingerboard with thumbnail-style half-moon inlays, black headstock with three-per-side tuners, floating tune-o-matic bridge, trapeze tailpiece, two special design "bumbucking" humbucker pickups, two knobs (v, tone), three-way pickup switch, chrome hardware, available in Ebony, Vintage Sunburst, or Wine Red finish, 25.5 in. scale, mfg. late 1980s.
This model was designed by Gibson to Chet Atkins specifications. There is at least one example of this guitar called the ES Atkins that has a fancier headstock with inlays. This model probably preceded the Country Gentleman II.
