- single cutaway poplar wood body with vinyl edging, neck reinforcement consisted of a .75 in. square aluminum rod which ran from nut to bridge, "Bell"-shaped headstock with large rear volute and angled stenciled logo with "curly-cue" design (soon changed to vertical stenciled logo). Early versions had one or two pre-Lipstick tube pickups concealed under a thin single-ply white plastic pickguard, soon changed to lipstick tube pickups with clear pickguard with stenciled "D" logo and perimeter stripe, available in a variety of finishes and textured coverings including Black, Red, Bronze, Blue, and Yellow, extremely rare model, introduced 1954, phased out 1955.
