Luthier Michael A. Lewis began offering handcrafted banjos and mandolins in 1981.  Lewis, a stringed instrument repairman since 1981, began making both flattop and archtop guitars in 1993. In 1999, Lewis chose to focus exclusively on the carved plate instruments.
