Luthier Michael A. Lewis began offering handcrafted banjos and mandolins in 1981. Lewis, a stringed instrument repairman since 1981, began making both flattop and archtop guitars in 1993. In 1999, Lewis chose to focus exclusively on the carved plate instruments. Until 2011, Lewis made authorized replicas of John D'Angelico's Excel and New Yorker models (prices started at $18,000). Lewis is a repair and restoration shop for original D'Angelico guitars and an authorized service center for Martin. For more information visit Lewis' website or contact him directly.
Instruments currently built in Grass Valley, CA, since 1993.
