Luthier James R. DeCava Born was born and raised in Stratford, CT, and he began playing guitar, banjo and mandolin as a teenager. DeCava began performing repairs on his guitars simply because there were few repair people around at the time. While spending time meeting others with similar interests, DeCava came into contact with Paul Morrissey and Bob Flesher at Liberty Banjo Co. in nearby Bridgeport, CT. DeCava worked for them between 1975 and the early 1980's building and cutting and inlaying mother-of-pearl with intricate designs. Through the years DeCava has built many different stringed instruments including banjos, mandolins, flattop guitars, and solid body guitars. DeCava now focuses on archtop guitar building. He is currently also making mandocellos. For more information, visit DeCava's website or contact him directly.
Mandolins currently built in Stratford, CT since 1983.
