In the 1940s, Gretsch introduced their one and only venture into the mandolin industry with the New Yorker model. They produced this for a few short years, but by the early 1950s, it had disappeared from the catalog. Gretsch hasn't made a mandolin ever since, however they continue to build several acoustic and electric guitars as well as basses. In May, 2012, Gretsch released the Roots Collection that includes new mandolins, banjos, resonators, and ukuleles.
