- 15W, 2-12 in. Jensen Concert Series speakers, tube chassis, preamp: 3 X 6SC7, 6J5, power: 2 X 6L6, 5U4 rectifier, top numbered control panel, four input jacks, four pointer knobs (mic v, inst. v, b, t), diagonal tweed covering, brown cloth grille, mfg. 1952-54.
This was the first wide panel amp for Fender and the first to offer dual tone controls. Model 5D8 featured a 12AY7 tube.

TWIN (NARROW PANEL)

- 50W, 2-12 in. Jensen speakers, tube chassis, preamp: 3 X 12AY7, 12AX7, power: 2 X 6L6, rectifer: 2 X 5Y3GY, top numbered control panel, four input jacks, five pointer knobs (mic v, inst. v, b, t, p), diagonal tweed covering, brown tweed-era grille, mfg. 1954-1960.
Model 5E8 was the first to have 50W. In 1955, the rectifers were changed to 2 X 5U4G (Model 5F8) and later on to a5AR4 (Model 5F8-A). In 1956, a mid-range control is added along with bright and normal inputs. In 1958, the preamp and driver tubes were changed to a 12AY7 and 2 X 12AX7, and the output tubes are changed to 4 X 5881. This is model 5F8-A, and power output was reported at 85W. The control panel now had six knobs. A few of the very late (1960) models were covered in brown Tolex with the top control panel. Some collectors say early Twin's had 2-10 in. speakers.

TWIN (BROWNFACE)

- 90W, 2-12 in. Jensen speakers, tube chassis, preamp: 6 X 7025, power: 4 X 6L6GC, solid state rectifier, two channels, tremolo, front brownface control panel, four input jacks (two normal, two vibrato), nine cream knobs (Norm: v, t, b, Vibrato: v, t, b, s, i, Both: p), available in brown (1960 only) or cream Tolex covering, maroon or wheat colored grille, mfg. 1960-63.
Model number 6G8A changed the tube schematics to 6 X 7025 and 4 X 6L6. There are many different variants of this model over its 11 year existence. There are a few amps made with brown tolex covering and a smaller box. The Twin was phased out when the Twin Reverb was introduced.

TWIN REVERB (SILVERFACE)

In 1968, the Silverface is introduced with silver control panel, blue cloth grille, and aluminum trim. The Silverface is the same as the Blackface in the schematics. In 1973, the output was raised to 100W and a master volume control was added. In 1976, a push/pull distortion switch was added to the master volume control and JBL speakers became an option.

Super Twin Reverb
