Ampeg introduced their first hybrid amplifiers with the AX Series in 1990. Hybrid technology utilizes a mixture of tube and solid-state technology - most often with one or two preamp tubes to shape the sound and a solid-state power section. Both the AX-44C and AX-70 featured a 12AX7 preamp tube. These amps did not last in Ampeg's line very long, but they did go on to use hybrid technology in many of their bass amps later on.
