ELECTRIC SS AMPS: SECOND SERIES PORTAFLEX MODELS (1968-1969)

In 1968, Ampeg introduced their second series of solid-state amps and like the first series, all of these used Portaflex cabinet designs. The second series featured amplifiers that were much larger, especially the three ST models. All models in this series were very short lived and few of them exist today. However, the BT-140, ST-22L Gladiator, ST-25L Olympian, and ST-42L Colossus all moved on to Ampeg's unofficial third series in 1969. Since the Portaflex cabinet design was primarily used to allow the tubes to dissipate heat, it was not needed in solid-state design and Ampeg pretty much abandoned use of the Portaflex cabinet with solid-state amplifiers after 1968.
