ACOUSTIC: SPECIAL 16 SERIES

In addition to the 16 Series, Martin also offered a Special Edition line of 16 Series guitars. This series was introduced in late 1996 with most production starting in 1997. The Special 16 Series featured the same woods and bracing that the regular 16 Series has, but added features including an abalone pearl rosette, a Style 45 multi-colored back inlay strip, and gold hardware. The Special 16 Series was initially offered as a limited edition and in 1997 only 2,500 guitars in the entire line were going to be produced, but production became more standard in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Most models were discontinued by the early 2000s, but the SPD-K Koa models were produced until 2005.

- similar to SP000-16(T), except has solid East Indian rosewood back and sides, mfg. 1997-2000.

In 1998, the "T" was dropped from the model name and it was called the 000-16R Rosewood from 1998 on.
