JAZZ BASS (FENDER MFG. 1960-64)

- offset double alder body, bolt-on maple neck, 20-fret rosewood fingerboard with pearl dot inlays, four-on-one-side tuners, fixed bridge with string mutes, F logo bridge cover, tortoiseshell/metal pickguard with finger rest, two J-style pickups, two concentric knobs (v, tone) controls, chrome hardware, available in 3-Tone Sunburst, Blonde, or Custom Colors finishes, mfg. 1960-64.
In early 1962, three standard knobs (two v, tone) replaced two concentric (stacked) knobs. Also in 1962, Blonde and custom color finishes were introduced with Blonde-finished instruments using an ash body and Custom color finishes having white pickguards. In 1963, the string mutes were removed. Matching color headstocks are common.

In 1965, a bound fingerboard was introduced. In 1966, block fingerboard inlays replaced dot inlays. In 1969, a black-bound maple fingerboard with black block inlays became optional. By the mid-1970s, pearloid block fingerboard inlays and white binding became optional on maple fingerboards. In 1975, a three-bolt neck and neckplate design were introduced.

- offset double cutaway alder body, bolt-on maple neck, four-bolt neck plate, 22-fret maple fingerboard with black dot inlays or rosewood fingerboard with pearl dot inlays, four-on-one-side tuners, fixed bridge with individual string adj., no bridge cover, white/chrome or tortoise/chrome pickguard, two J-style pickups with white covers, three knobs (two v, tone), chrome hardware, available in the following standard finishes: Black, Brown Sunburst, Cherry Sunburst, Natural, Sienna Sunburst, or White or the following custom color finishes: Aztec Gold, Candy Apple Green, Emerald Green, Mocha Brown, Pewter, Ruby Red, or Sapphire Blue, 34 in. scale, mfg. 1981-circa 1985.
In 1983, a one-piece white or tortoiseshell pickguard was introduced (no chrome part).
