The Danelectro company was started by Nathan I. Daniels in 1948. Danelectro only produced amplifiers for the first five years that the company was in business. The first guitar was released in 1953. Daniels also built amps for Sears that were branded Silvertone. Danelectro thrived during the guitar boom of the 1950s and 1960s, but they could not keep up with all the competition in the guitar industry in the late 1960s. Danelectro closed its doors by 1969, and no guitars or amps were produced for another 25 years. The Evets Corporation bought Danelectro in the mid-1990s, and released new budget-line guitar amplifiers in 1996, along with guitars and effects. In 2003, Danelectro discontinued all guitar and amplifiers (besides the Honeytone Mini-Amp), and focused strictly on effects. In 2005, Danelectro started offering guitars again, as part of a limited edition. A certain number of one model is produced, and when they were gone, a new model is introduced.
