YAMAHA AE 1200/AE 1200S Description
- single smooth cutaway hollow beech/birch Super 400-style body, arched solid spruce top, multi-ply body binding, two f-holes, set maple neck, 20-fret bound ebony fingerboard with split block inlays, multi-ply bound headstock with black overlay, Yamaha logo, and decorative inlays, three-per-side tuners, ebony-based adj. bridge, decorative wire trapeze tailpiece, raised bound tortoise pickguard, two humbucker pickups, four knobs (two v, two tone with coil taps), three-way pickup switch, gold hardware, available in Antique Stain, Burgundy, or Natural finish, 25.25 in. scale (later listed as 24.75 in. scale), mfg. late 1970s-1994.
This model first appeared in the 1980 Yamaha catalog as the AE 1200. It reappeared in the 1985 catalog as the AE 1200S, but featured the same specs (S refers to the solid spruce top that the AE 1200 had as well). By the early 1990s, the scale had been listed as 24.75 in. In Yamaha's 1992 and 1993 price lists, this guitar is referred to as the AE 1200S II.
