- cresting wave style bound maple body, two-piece white pickguard, through-body maple neck, 20-fret bound rosewood fingerboard with pearl triangle inlay, fixed bridge, cresting wave style peghead, two-per-side tuners, chrome hardware, two single coil exposed pickups (metal cover over bridge pickup), four konbs (two v, two tone), three-position switch, stereo output, available in Natural finish, mfg. 1979-present.
In 1985, pickguard was replaced with one piece unit. This model is very similar to the 4001 with the main difference being the 4003 is meant for round-wound strings. This model is also available in fretless configuration (Model 4003 FL).
