- single or double sharp cutaway mahogany body, black pickguard with model name stamp, mahogany neck, 22-fret rosewood fingerboard with pearl dot inlay, wrapover stop tailpiece, three-per-side tuners with plastic buttons, nickel hardware, covered single coil pickup, volume/tone control, available in Walnut, or Sunburst finish, approx. 24,500 mfg. 1959-1970.

The single cutaway is the most desirable configuration of this model. In 1960, a 5/8 in. pickup width replaced the 7/8 in. oblong pickup. In 1961, double round cutaway body replaced single cutaway. In 1962, Maestro vibrato became an option. In 1963, body edges became more rounded, the horns pointed farther away from the neck, and Cherry finish became available. In 1965, double sharp cutaway body (SG body style) replaced previous double rounded cutaway body. Also in 1965, a white pickguard, vibrato tailpiece became standard, and Fire Engine Red and Pelham Blue finishes were introduced. During 1968, Walnut finish was introduced, and by 1970, was the only finish available.
