- double sharp cutaway SG-style mahogany body, mahogany neck, "Les Paul Custom" engraved on plastic piece between neck pickup and fingerboard, 22-fret bound ebony fingerboard with pearl block inlays, multi-bound headstock with pearl split diamond inlay, three-per-side tuners, tune-o-matic bridge, available in several tailpieces including a side-pull Vibrola (1961-62), a short Vibrola with a pearl inlaid ebony tailblock (1962-63), a Bigsby vibrato with short tailpiece (1961-63), or a long vibrola with a lyre-engraved cover (1963), white layered pickguard, three covered humbucker pickups, four knobs (two v, two tone), three-way pickup switch, gold hardware, available in Black or White finish, mfg. 1961-63.

Models in black finish are very rare. Some models may have a factory-installed stop tailpiece of a Maestro vibrato. In 1962, some models were produced with pearl inlaid ebony tailpiece insert. In 1963, this model was officially renamed the SG Custom (see SG Series).
