GIBSON L-1 FLATTOP Description
- spruce top, round soundhole, bound body, three-ring rosette, mahogany back/sides, maple neck, 12/19-fret ebony fingerboard with pearl dot inlay, ebony pyramid bridge with black pins, painted peghead logo, three-per-side tuners with plastic buttons, mfg. 1926-1937.
This model was produced in the "Robert Johnson" body shape between 1926-28 - Sunburst finish became available in 1927. The body style changed to an L-0 shape circa 1929. By 1928, bound rosewood fingerboard, three-stripe bound body/rosette, rosewood belly bridge with white pins, Brown Sunburst finish replaced original part/design, extra bridge pin was added. In 1929, straight bridge replaced original design, extra bridge pin was discontinued. In 1931, the body and bridge were redesigned, unbound fingerboard replaced previous part/design. In 1932, single bound body, 14/19-fret fingerboard replaced previous part/design. From 1932-33, a tortoiseshell pickguard was added.
