GIBSON BR-6 Description
- 8-10W (1946-47) or 12W (1948-1956), 1-10 in. speaker, five tube chassis, preamp: 1 X 6SL7 (1946-47) or 1 X 6SJ7 (1948-1956), 1 X 6SN7, power: 2 X 6V6, rectifier: 5Y3, single channel, bottom-mounted chassis, rear control panel, two (1946-47) or three (1948-1952) inputs, one volume knob, two or three horizontal grille openings, brown leatherette covering, approx. 8,443 shipped, mfg. 1946-1954.
In 1948, the model was changed to the BR-6F, the wattage increased to 12W, a 10 in. dynamic speaker replaced the field coil, a 6SJ7 preamp tube replaced the 6SL7, an input was added, and the cabinet changed to a horizontal design with a lighter brown covering, tan grille cloth, and a two hole rectangle speaker hole with a styilized "G." This model was renamed the GA-6 in 1956. Shipping totals reflect the total number shipped through the end of 1955 (regardless if models were still shipped into 1956).
