Fender offered the Mustang model in both the full-scale or a student-sized 3/4-scale neck. The Mustang model stayed popular for a number of years with the full-scale neck, but many of the 3/4-scale models were returned from dealers due to lack of acceptance (See Musiclander). As a result, the number of 3/4-scale Mustangs available in the vintage market is small. In 1969, 22-fret fingerboard became standard. In the 1970s, Black, Blonde, Natural, Sunburst and Walnut were the standard finishes. In 1975, tuner buttons became metal; black pickguard replaced original parts/design.
