- offset double cutaway hardwood 3/4 size body, metal pickguard, bolt-on maple neck, 21-fret rosewood fingerboard with pearl dot inlay, fixed bridge with cover, six-on-one-side tuners with plastic buttons, chrome hardware, two single coil pickups, two knobs (v, tone), three-position switch, available in Desert Sand, Sunburst, or Custom Color finishes, mfg. 1956-1969.

In 1960, a tortoiseshell or white plastic pickguard replaced the metal one. In 1964, the body was redesigned to look like the Mustang with a contoured body, offset body waists, two angled pickups, and Red, Blue, and White finishes were introduced. The Duo-Sonic was available as a short scale (22.5 in.) or long scale (24 in.) until 1965, when the long scale version was renamed the Duo-Sonic II.
