- offset double cutaway alder, ash or poplar body, aluminum-lined pickguard, bolt-on maple neck, 24-fret maple or rosewood fingerboard with dot inlay, strings-through bridge, 4/2-per-side Schaller tuners, chrome hardware, two single coil and one humbucker DiMarzio pickups (three single coil and two humbucker pickup configurations were options until 1998), volume/tone control, five-way switch, available in Black, Natural, Sunburst, Trans. Blueburst, Trans. Teal, Trans. Red, or White finish, mfg. 1987-present.
In 1996, Natural and Trans. Blueburst finishes were disc. In 1998, humbucker/single coil/humbucker pickup configuration replaced the 2 single coil/humbucker pickup configuration; Trans. Teal and Trans. Red finishes were disc. The Silhouette was the first Ernie Ball/Music Man production guitar. Designed by Dudley Gimpel, and developed in part by guitarist Albert Lee, this design was influenced by earlier CLF Research models but a number of modern refinements added.
