George Gruhn, Tut Taylor, and Randy Wood started a guitar shop called GTR incorporated in January, 1970. At their shop, the had a small showroom for buying and selling instruments, offices for business and lessons, and a shop in the back for repair and performing work for Gibson in the early years. By 1972, both Taylor and Wood had left the company leaving Gruhn as the only member of GTR. He continued to buy and sell guitars, and in 1974, Gruhn started importing a line of mandolins from Japan that were built by the company/factory Moridaira. Although the name of the shop changed to Gruhn Guitars in circa 1976, Gruhn continued to import mandolins with GTR on the headstock until 1978.
Mandolins previously produced in Japan during the 1970s. Distributed in the U.S. by GTR in Nashville, TN.
