VALVESTATE AMPLIFIERS (HYBRID): VALVESTATE SERIES I

Prior to 1991, Marshall never produced a "budget" amplifier line and Hybrid technology was also becoming popular among amplifier manufacturers. In 1991, Marshall introduced the Valvestate Series that featured a tube in the preamp section and a solid-state power amp. These amps were targeted for the musician that was on a budget, was entry-level, or didn't need the big power of their tube amps. The first Valvestate series came in four models with matching cabinets. In 1991, they introduced a 100W head with matching 4 X 12 cabinet, two power amps, and a mircro-stack. Models then followed in 1992 with the popular 8200 head-unit, and combo 8240. A new feature on this series, with the exception of the 10W model, was a contour knob. This knob worked with the mid-frequencies to go from metal to blues.
