The power transformer inside Fender amps can also be used to date the model. NOTE: If the transformer has been replaced it will not represent the actual year the amp was built (the transformer needs to be original to use this system). Also keep in mind that transformers were often bought in large quantities, and they often sat on the shelf for a period of six months to one year (or longer). This means a transformer dated 1964 might really be used in an amp that is a 1965 or 1966 model. On transformers there is an EIA number that always starts with 606 and is followed by three or four additional digits. Similar to speaker and pot date codes, the first digit (for three additional numbers) or first two digits (for four additional numbers) indicates the year of production. The last two digits indicate the week of the year of production. Examples: 606-4-21 is a transformer produced in the 21st week of 1964. 606-66-36 is a tranformer produced in the 36th week of 1966.
