ELECTRIC: KORINA SERIES

Introduced a year after the Golden Oldies Series, the Korina Series models is another example of Ibanez really sticking it to Gibson. If the series name was the battle cry, then the actual models are the equivalent of the Marines landing. Ibanez introduced three models based on Gibson´s futuristic designs of 1958: The Rocket Roll Sr. was a copy of the Flying V, the Futura was the Moderne copy, and Destroyer was their take on the Explorer model. All models had an original retail list price of $395, and featured an Ibanez script logo on the headstock similar (from a distance.hmmm). While one reliable vintage source estimates that the ´Korina´ is in fact tinted Japanese ash, interest in these three models has seen a resurgence in the past couple of years. This series lasted from 1975-77.
One note of moderate interest (it´ll win you a drink in a bar bet), the Korina Series Ibanez Flying V copy was named the Rocket Roll Sr. Why Sr.? The first Ibanez Rocket Roll model was the solid finish Golden Oldies Series model!
The Korina series is again seeing a lot of attention from players and dealers, now in the Vintage Guitar market. The three models all can be found with price tags ranging from $800 to $1,000 at guitar shows; market research has indicated that they actually sell in the area between $550/$600 up to $800.
