ELECTRIC: GOLDEN OLDIES SERIES

Proof that Ibanez was willing to take on the established American companies was established in 1974 when Ibanez introduced the Golden Oldies Series. The four instruments were modeled after Gibson´s stalwart designs, with a little tongue in cheek renaming. The Rocket Roll was Ibanez´ version of a Flying V, the Firebrand was a Firebird copy, the Deluxe ´59er was a flametop LP with sunburst finish steal (even to the right year in the name!), and the FM Jr. was the Ibanez version of the Les Paul TV Junior (FM ´radio´ derived from TV - Get it?). This series was produced from 1974-75.
Both the Rocket Roll and the Firebrand had the Ibanez logo on their respective truss rod covers; the Deluxe ´59er and FM Jr. had the Ibanez logo across their headstocks. Golden Oldies models featured solid or sunburst finishes, similar to their namesakes.
The Rocket Roll model was designated Model 2387. Ibanez also had a Rocket Roll Bass 4-string model designated Model 2387-B, but few have turned up on the secondary market.
