ELECTRIC BASS: MISC.

Early Guild basses have a specially designed Guild single coil pickup made by Hagstrom in Sweden that is often mistaken for a humbucker. Some of these basses had an extra switch that activated a passive circuit and eliminated the hum associated with single coil pickups. This feature makes the basses more desirable and collectible.

ASHBORY

- small curved teardrop body, neck-through design, four-on-one-side tuners, chrome hardware, piezo pickup under bridge, volume/tone controls, mfg. 1986-88.

It is estimated that only 2,000 instruments were produced. This compact bass had solid silicon tubing for strings, and, oddly enough, can approximate the sound of an upright bass. The Ashbory Bass has been reissued by Fender. It is Korean made with English electronics and retails for $400.

- offset double cutaway mahogany body, black laminated pickguard, mahogany neck, 20-fret rosewood fingerboard with pearl dot inlay, fixed bridge, blackface peghead with pearl Chesterfield/logo inlay, two-per-side tuners, chrome hardware, single coil pickup, volume/tone controls, available in Black, Natural, Red, or White finish, mfg. 1977-1981.

In 1980, mahogany body/neck instruments were discontinued.

JET STAR BASS

- offset double cutaway companion bass to the S-200 Thunderbird, S-100 Polara, and S-50 Jet Star guitars. It came with a Thunderbird style headstock with two-per-side tuners until 1966 when it changed to four-on-one-side tuners. From 1964-1965 it had a Hagstrom style single coil pickup, from 1966 to 1970 it came with Guild Mickey Mouse bass pickups, mfg. 1964-1970

JS BASS I

- offset double cutaway mahogany body/neck, 21-fret rosewood fingerboard with pearl dot inlay, fixed bridge, blackface peghead with pearl Chesterfield/logo inlay, two-per-side tuners, chrome hardware, humbucker pickup, volume/tone controls, available in Black, Natural, or Sunburst finish, mfg. 1970-78.

This model had an optional fretless fingerboard. In 1972, tone switch was introduced, redesigned humbucker pickup replaced original parts/design.

JS Bass I LS

In 1972, tone switch was introduced, redesigned humbucker pickups replaced original parts/design. In 1974 through 1976, a hand carved acorn/leaves body was offered.

- offset double cutaway asymmetrical poplar body, bolt-on maple neck, 22-fret rosewood fingerboard with pearl dot inlay, fixed bridge, four-on-one-side tuners, black hardware, P/J-style pickups, two volume/tone controls, available in Black, Natural, or White finish, disc. 1994.

This model was also offered with a mahogany body.
